So much for the good feelings engendered by the Seahawks’ 3-0 start, one of just eight times that had happened in team history. In a six-day span since, the Seahawks have reached a critical point in their season, not just losing two games to the Lions and the Giants — the latter coming Sunday in stunning fashion 29-20 at Lumen Field — but displaying far too many warts along the way. The Seahawks are disjointed on offense and nowhere near as stout on defense as they appeared the first three weeks, allowing 809 yards the last two games and seven touchdown drives of 70 yards or longer.
It’ll make for a tough few days at the VMAC trying to sort it all out before the 49ers come to town Thursday night, as well as some poor marks in our weekly grades. Quarterback Geno Smith was all the offense the Seahawks had, putting up a solid-enough looking passing line — 28 of 40 for 284 yards, a TD and no interceptions — and uncorking four scrambles for a career-high 72 yards. He endured through seven sacks and now has taken 18 in five games.
It probably doesn’t make anyone feel much better to say that Smith played well enough to win. But he was the least of the problems Sunday. Grade : B.
Running back To reiterate, the grade here is for the individual positions. And in that regard, Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet seemed to generally make the most of what little room they were given to run. They just weren’t given much room or opportunities as Walker had 19 yards on five.
