Faulty traffic lights on a busy Bromley Cross junction are set to be repaired. Transport for Greater Manchester will repair the lights on Darwen Road at the junction with Hospital Road. It will recut signal detector loops the road.

The lights have only been allowing two or three cars to pass through at one time. This has caused traffic delays. Residents have reported build-up all the way to the Co-op store on Darwen Road .

The lights' vehicle detecting loops were damaged because of resurfacing work done to Darwen and Turton Road, according to Transport for Greater Manchester. Cllr Nadim Muslim, who represents Bromley Cross, said: “Between 23/08/24 and 29/08/24, Transport for Greater Manchester will complete the work to recut signal detector loops on Darwen Road at the junction with Hospital Road, under three-way temporary signals. This will resolve the issues that we're currently seeing where limited cars are let through the lights at any one time.

"The issue has been created due to the full resurfacing of Darwen Road . "As the contractors worked so efficiently, work has been completed well ahead of schedule. "The signal loop engineers were scheduled to come and sort the issue once work had been completed but as this happened much sooner than planned, it meant the signals went a few weeks out of sync.

"We're glad it's now being resolved." Roadworks began on July 22 and were due to last around four weeks depending on the weather conditions. The resurfacing works closed Darwen Road for a mile between Brierholme Avenue and Guild Street, and Turton Road for half-a-mile between Shady Lane and Oaks Avenue.

The roads are used by bus services including the 533 and 541, as well as the Blackburn TA1 service – as well as providing the main link between Bromley Cross and surrounding neighbourhoods, and the rail network..
