In a move set to revolutionize regional travel, Regionalverkehr Bern-Solothurn (RBS) has officially awarded a contract to Swiss train manufacturer Stadler for the production of 20 new multiple units. Scheduled for delivery between 2028 and 2030, these new trains will significantly enhance travel comfort and capacity on the busy Solothurn-Bern RegioExpress (RE5) route.
The project marks a major milestone in RBS’s ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and improve public transport for commuters in Switzerland’s Bern-Solothurn region. The contract, signed in November 2023, is valued at approximately 190 million Swiss Francs, and the new vehicles will be produced at Stadler’s manufacturing facility in Bussnang, located in the canton of Thurgau.
