Amazon MGM Studios’ Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans-led Christmas action movie “Red One” is on track for a reported opening weekend of $30-33 million. The film, originally conceived as a Prime Video release before Amazon MGM pivoted to theatrical, came in at a budget over $200 million and so will need to have legs to hit profit – this number, though sizeable, needed to be more for something this expensive. That said, despite scathing critical reviews, the film’s opening weekend has managed to beat out some other costly films originally meant for streaming who switched to theatrical – such as “Napoleon” ($32.

5 million over five days) and “Killers of the Flower Moon” ($23.2 million). In fact, it’s about on par with several other post-pandemic titles for non-IP movies like “Bullet Train,” “The Lost City,” “M3GAN” and “IF” which all opened in the very low $30 million range.

“Red One” has, to date, made $36 million from 75 offshore territories where the film opened over a week ago. Also at the domestic box-office, “Venom: The Last Dance” looks set to come second with $21.6 million followed by “Heretic” with $15 million, “Best Christmas Pageant Ever” with $14.

5 million, and “The Wild Robot” with $9.2 million. Source:.
