LITTLETON — In her outdoor and indoor track career, Savannah Liles has played a major role in 11 school records at Littleton High. In the classroom, she sports a 4.86 grade point average, is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the school’s Principal List for receiving a 90 or above in every class.
She is also a long-time dancer and talented artist. Before her senior year started, her aspirations were to attend college and become a fashion designer. But that all changed during summer vacation.
“I was on a cruise, and I was contacted by the track coach,” she said. It wasn’t just any collegiate track coach. “It was the track coach at West Point,” she said.
The coach expressed interest in Liles attending the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. After extensive research and some thinking, Liles reconsidered attending art school.
“I realized that this was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up and that I really wanted to do this,” she said, adding that she signed her NLI last week to attend West Point. “I have always wanted to live to help people and feel like my life has a purpose. It’s going to allow me to serve my country and to protect and help people.
Plus, I get to compete for a Division 1 track program. It’s going to be a hard, hard, hard experience but I live for the challenge.” Getting into West Point is an extremely difficult process.
Liles had to take medical and fitness tests and be interviewed by state senators and.
