Thursday, November 28, 2024 Traveling during Thanksgiving 2024 is set to be challenging, with severe winter weather forecast to impact vast regions of the United States in the days ahead. As a record-breaking 80 million Americans are expected to travel by road and another 30 million by air between now and Monday, adverse conditions threaten to disrupt plans for many. The National Weather Service has warned of unsettled weather across key regions, including snow in the Midwest, thunderstorms along the Gulf Coast, and continued rain across the already-saturated West Coast.

In the eastern U.S., a “messy Thanksgiving travel” scenario could emerge, potentially causing widespread delays for millions of travelers.



Meteorologists predict that snow over the Rockies will taper off early Wednesday, but the associated low-pressure system will gain strength as it moves through the Midwest and Northeast during Thanksgiving. Denver is expected to see 1-3 inches of snow, creating tricky travel conditions in and around the area, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Emma Belscher. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect regions from the Mississippi Valley to the Tennessee Valley throughout Wednesday, moving eastward into Thursday.
