High-end cars have been the staple prizes from Ganesh mandal donation coupons, but this year the stakes will give the winner a heady ride to a new home: a 2BHK flat is the Sanguem mandal bonanza. The raffle boon, or the first prize, of the Sangampur Ganeshotsav Mandal of Sanguem will accord a sense of ‘realty’ to luck by granting a 103sqm flat at Aquem in Margao and Rs 27 lakh in cash. The Quepem Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal is famed for offering luxury cars with cash as prizes through its donation coupons.

The Sanvordem Ganeshotsav Mandal also hands over luxury cars and SUVs, besides cash. The donation coupons of the mandals are highly coveted because of their extravagant returns. Every year, several high-end and mid-range vehicles are up for grabs.

Last year, minutes after launching the donation coupons, the managing committee of the Quepem Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal was forced to stop the sale as the surging crowd of buyers turned unmanageable for police and volunteers. The sale counters had to be shifted to bring some order. While the Quepem mandal is yet to launch its donation coupons and unveil its prizes for this year, the Sanvordem Ganeshotsav Mandal, which is celebrating the 47th year of its inception, is vying to match the popularity of the former.

The donation coupons of the Sanvordem mandal were launched recently by former PWD minister Deepak Pauskar. Several luxury cars, high-end motorcycles, and cash have been earmarked for the lottery victors. An advanced version of Tata Safari, costing well over Rs 20 lakh, and a cash component of almost 10 lakh comprise the first prize.

The second prize is a Mahindra Thar, worth over Rs 12 lakh, and Rs 6 lakh in cash. A Maruti Grand Vitara, a Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta, a Tata Punch Adventure, and several expensive motorcycles are the other prizes. But the Sangampur mandal has taken off the brakes from its hurtling windfall: its second prize is a Tata Prima 10-wheeler commercial vehicle and Rs 21 lakh in cash; the third prize is a Tata Hitachi excavator and Rs 14 lakh in cash.

Eight other prizes on offer include four-wheelers and cash, and two more two-wheelers with attractive cash components..
