Pune: A farmer from Ravet became the latest victim of online share trading fraud and lost Rs12.4 lakh to cybercrooks between June and July, this year. The farmer (35) filed a complaint with the cybercrime cell of Pimpri Chinchwad police.

A case was registered with the Ravet police on Wednesday after preliminary investigations. An officer from the Ravet police said the farmer came in contact with the cybercrooks on a social media platform. They offered him a good profit to trade in IPOs.

“The men told him to download an app to trade and monitor the profit. The farmer transferred Rs12.4 lakh to accounts of different bank as provided to him,” the officer said.

He said when the farmer tried to withdraw money through the app, he failed to do so — even after repeatedly following up with the crooks. “The farmer realised he had been duped. He approached the police and lodged a complaint,” the officer added.
