I found a couple of old pictures of my younger self the other day. In one I’m walking in the middle of a suburban road, wearing a black sleeveless top and Adidas trackie bottoms and making a victory sign. In the other I’m wearing a white polo shirt and winking like Sid James in a Carry On film.
Neither is madly flattering — editing software didn’t exist back then, and I certainly didn’t have a pose ready — but they’re both unmistakably 1990s. The first, I would say, is early in the decade; the second about 1995, 1996. It’s the winking that dates it.
