From his early days at MTV Hustle to producing hits like Maan Meri Jaan and Tu Aake Dekhle and coming up with albums like The Carnival to his latest Monopoly Moves , King has come a long way. The rapper, who is currently on a multi-city album tour, recently performed in Ahmedabad. He says, “Ahmedabad is one of the craziest cities one can perform in.

The energy is always unmatched, and I love the zeal the fans bring in every time.” In a conversation, he talks about why he loves releasing albums, the importance of lyrics and more. ‘I decided to go back to my hip hop roots with my new album’ King, who is currently touring for the Monopoly Moves album shares, “Monopoly Moves is a project very close to my heart.

It's an idea that goes back a lot of years, and I decided to go back to my roots in hip hop with this album, including the process of brewing all these songs at home. I am excited about where the album travels with my fans. It’s all theirs now.

We have been touring to multiple cities and we can see the love pouring in when the crowd sings along all songs from such a new album.” Talking about the reach of hip hop and rap music in India, he adds, “Rap music is a huge ecosystem in India, especially now with borders getting blurred. Every artiste has space to deliver good music and thrive.

” King and MC Stan have collaborated for the track F*ck What They Say ‘Albums allow me to showcase more variety and tell more stories’ King, who has been releasing albums and EPs every year since 2020, shares, “I believe in putting out albums because they allow me to showcase more variety, tell more stories, and work with more people, whether it’s producers or other artistes.” Having explored multiple themes through his music, from love to social issues, King adds that lyrics are an important part of his musical process. He shares, “As I grow, I understand the responsibilities that come with being an artiste and the immense weight our words hold.

What we write can bring together souls, making people dance and creating a movement if necessary. I don’t believe in following any trends. As compared to earlier, now I have more resources to make music.

I know more people that I want to work with. However, the intent has always stayed the same.” So, does he feel the pressure to replicate the success of hits like Maan Meri Jaan? “Not at all.

I love putting out every piece of music that I do, and it carries the same excitement every time,” he asserts. ‘ Collaborations are a beautiful way of creating art’ King, who has collaborated with multiple artistes like Julia Michaels in New Life, and Raftaar and MC Stan in Monopoly Moves, says, “Collaborations are a beautiful process of multiple creative minds coming together to create one piece of art. They also allow us the space to leave our zone, step into another artiste’s zone or sometimes create a new zone.

It’s a brilliant way of making art, bringing fandoms together and I cherish the process as much as I cherish working alone on my songs.”.
