This was a cathartic evening for two embattled figures in particular as Rangers eased past FCSB to move a step closer to a berth in the Europa League knockout stages. The weekend loss to Kilmarnock had intensified the spotlight on manager Philippe Clement who would have known that suffering a second successive defeat — for the first time in his Ibrox tenure — would likely come with consequences. In truth, that prospect never looked likely from the moment Rangers fashioned an early lead through Tom Lawrence and then added to it with a double from Vaclav Cerny, who lit up a relatively humdrum contest with two splashes of the spectacular, and then a fourth from Hamza Igamane.

Cerny is another figure who has not always been universally popular around these parts since making an ill-advised gesture to the crowd in one match then missing the mother of all sitters in the European tie against Lyon..
