Next came his aberration in front of goal in the opening minutes of a 4-1 rout in the Europa League , Lyon star Maxence Caqueret compounding the agony by thanking the Czech after the game for waking his team up.

By the time the wide man deactivated his Instagram account, he was ready to curl up in a ball and seek refuge in a darkened room. Rangers players rarely have that luxury, of course. And, when times get tough, it falls to the manager to wrap a comforting arm round their shoulders.



Philippe Clement was there to provide one when Cerny broke the deadlock with a sublime opening goal against St Johnstone and ran over to seek the comfort and solace of a hug from his manager. The quality of the strike deserved a show of appreciation.
