Billions of are set to march into homes and mate in people’s . Experts have warned that the eight legged critters love to crawl into crumpled clothes left on the floor. And they said the creepy crawlies make a beeline for the crotch of smelly dirty knickers and pants as they hunt out warm dark breeding grounds.

Louisa Warman, founder of sustainable fashion brand Nomad The Label, said leaving clothes festering on the floor is “rolling out the welcome mat” for spiders and said people could even end up getting from the bugs. She said: “If you don’t pick your clothes off the floor this autumn, don’t be surprised if spiders crawl inside. “Expect a very scary surprise or even a bite.



” In September, male spiders leave their webs in our gardens and the great outdoors to creep inside our homes to look for a mate. Pest control experts estimate each home has an average of 40 spiders living in it - with the number doubling in September, their mating season. Multiply that by the 28 million homes in Britain, and that works out at billions of arachnids.

Louisa added: “As we transition to cooler weather, it’s vital to mind our clothing habits. “Leaving clothes strewn about isn’t just untidy - it’s practically an invitation for spiders seeking a snug nesting spot. ”Always shake out your underwear before putting them on, especially if they’ve been piled on the floor.
