Ranchi: A 30-year-old resident of Kathal More, Shivam Singh, is transforming waste materials into art pieces, under his ‘ Waste to Wonder ’ project that aims to reuse objects for environmental sustainability . One of Shivam’s recent accomplishments is the 15-ft 1,200kg statue of Birsa Munda installed in front of the RMC building. The sculpture is built with recycled materials sourced from local scrapyards.

A firm believer in the adage that ‘waste is not worthless’, Shivam, said, “I aim to inspire others to rethink their relationship with discarded materials by demonstrating that waste can be transformed into beautiful and utilitarian objects. The approach, blending art with sustainability, can ensure a greener future.” A graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)-Kangra, Shivam gained experience in the industry for five years.

He then decided to return to his hometown to pursue his passion for recycling and art by establishing his own startup. Deputy adminstrator Ravindra Kumar said, “Shivam’s art encourages people to be environmentally responsible by reusing materials that might otherwise pollute. RMC urges everyone to reuse waste items for a more sustainable environment.
