Legendary actress Mumtaz, who shared screen space with late superstar Rajesh Khanna in memorable films like Prem Kahani, Aap Ki Kasam, Dushman, Do Raaste, Roti and others, spoke about her bond with the Anand star and how he used to get upset when she used to work with his male-contemporaries. “He would get upset when I signed films with other heroes like Dharmendra ji or Dev (Anand) sahab. But he worked with other heroines, and I never sulked.

He thought he owned me. But never mind, it meant that he cared for me,” Mumtaz to Rediff. The actress also revealed that she was always compared with Khanna’s other frequent costar Sharmila Tagore but there wasn’t anything negative between them.

“I respect her a lot. She is far more educated and sophisticated than I am. I started working at the age of eight, so I learned everything on the job.

Whether it is Sharmila or any other heroine, I never had time to interact with them. It was God’s blessing that not one film of mine with Kaka (Rajesh Khanna) flopped. Sharmila ji had flops with him,” said the actress Rajesh Khanna worked with Sharmila Tagore in films like Aradhana, Safar, Chhoti Bahu, Badnam Farishte, Amar Prem, Maalik, Daag, Raja Rani, Avishkaar, Tyaag , and Naseeb .

For the unversed, Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz featured together in iconic tracks like Bindiya Chamkegi, Chup Gaye Sare Nazare, Jai Jai Shiv Shankar , and Yeh Reshmi Zulfein . While Mumtaz retired from films in 1990, Khanna passed away in 2012 and is survived by his estranged wife Dimple Kapadia, daughters Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna, son-in-law Akshay Kumar, and grandson Aarav..
