There is nothing new about the findings of the ABC inquiry into racism (“ Apology after ABC review finds culture of racism ”, October 2). Aunty is no different from other big organisations and it is baffling that management needed an inquiry to tell them what was obvious.
Many of the recommendations could apply to any organisation in Australia, from small businesses to BHP. All should read them to understand the reality for Indigenous and other culturally different people in the workplace. Mukul Desai, Hunters Hill Why would anyone be surprised at the level of racism at the ABC? The broadcaster is part of the cultural fabric of this nation and racism is a part of that fabric.
The appalling statistics relating to “the gap” between Indigenous people and other Australians is testament to this racism – in health, policing, education, the judicial system, the media and politics. Too often politicians make derogatory and offensive remarks when speaking about the various ethnic or religious groups in Australia.
Dog whistling by politicians is a form of racism that is out of control in this.
