When it comes to planning a beach day from Birmingham , it's difficult to find a seaside spot that's easy to get to, isn't overcrowded in the summer and with things to do nearby - but one beach in Wales ticks all three boxes. Morfa Borth is a small village that's home to the longest sandy beach in Ceredigion. With three miles of gently sloping golden sand at low tide and shallow swimming-friendly waters, this Blue Flag Beach is particularly popular with families with children.
The picturesque Welsh village is also a prime spot for coastal walks as both the Ceredigion and Wales coastal paths pass close to Borth Beach. At the southern end of the beach, the petrified tree stumps left behind by a submerged forest can be found at low tide and beyond this, tall cliffs tower above the bay. The Animalarium is a small family-run zoo within walking distance of the beach, which provides a home to domestic and farm animals, many of which visitors can pet and feed. The local railway station is only a two-minute walk from the sand and Brummies can get there directly from Birmingham New Street with fares starting from £14. Free parking can also be found around the village.
