Thursday, November 14, 2024 The Aruba Airport Authority (AAA) is thrilled to announce that Queen Beatrix International Airport has received its inaugural ACI-LAC Green Airport Recognition, honoring its exceptional leadership in sustainability. The award was granted on Monday, November 11, 2024. Angeline Flemming, the Director of Health and Sustainability at AAA, accepted the award on behalf of both the Airport Authority and the broader airport community.

The ACI-LAC Green Airport Recognition, established by the Airport Council International (ACI), highlights environmental best practices and aims to reduce aviation’s environmental impact. This program recognizes airports that have demonstrated remarkable achievements in environmental initiatives. In 2024, ACI-LAC Airport Members were encouraged to submit projects in the Circular Economy category.

This category includes efforts focused on optimizing water and energy use, extending the lifecycle of materials and products, and minimizing waste by reducing the amount sent to final disposal. Aruba Airport’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its operational practices, which integrate sustainable principles across three main areas: sustainable aviation, sustainable operations, and a sustainable airport community. A key component of AAA’s sustainability strategy is the Gateway 2030 Phase 1A Terminal Expansion project.

This major investment aims to address capacity challenges while enhancing the airport’s infrastruct.
