Pune: The Pune Rural police have launched the Shakti Campaign , a pilot project to increase the safety of women in Baramati town. The decision to implement the campaign was taken during a meeting with deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday. The police, under this initiative, will implement five different measures at public and private places such as schools, colleges, govt offices, private firms, hospitals, MSRTC stands, coaching centres, women's hostels, and post offices to enhance the safety of women and children.
The campaign will be later implemented in other towns in rural Pune. "We are implementing it as a pilot project in Baramati. Once it becomes successful, I will discuss with home minister Devendra Fadnavis to replicate it across Maharashtra," Ajit Pawar told reporters in Baramati on Thursday.
The initiative measures include a Shakti Box, where a complaint box will be kept at public and private places for women to lodge their grievances, a 24/7 Shakti Helpline (9209394917), a Shakti Cell at police stations with women personnel, a Shakti Nazar Cell to monitor social media platforms, and a Shakti Visit, where police will visit schools, colleges and offices regularly to create awareness about women's safety and increase patrolling. "Nowadays, some youths share objectionable content on social media platforms. The police team will keep a watch on such posts and take appropriate action," Pawar said while talking about Shakti Nazar Cell.
