Pune: The Pune police, in separate actions, arrested four men and detained a 17-year-old minor boy on Wednesday and recovered five country-made pistols and seven bullets valued at Rs3 lakh ahead of the state assembly polls . In the first case, the Kondhwa police arrested three men and detained a 17-year-old minor on the charge of possessing four country-made pistols and six rounds worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
The arrested include Swapnil Bhilare (26) and Salman Mulani (34), both from Paud and Aditya Matre (19) from Mulshi. Sub-inspector Balaji Digole on Thursday said they were riding on a scooter and motorbike towards Iskon Temple from Pisoli and Khadi Machine Chowk when a night patrol intercepted them on suspicion. "Bhilare's frisking led to the recovery of a pistol and two rounds tucked in his waist and pocket.
Three more firearms were recovered when the two vehicles were searched," he said. In the second action, the Khadak police arrested Sahil Khan (27) from Ghorpade Peth for possessing a country-made pistol and one round worth Rs51,000 at Lohiyanagar on Wednesday night. Investigations are under way to trace the source of the weapons.
