Pune News: A 35-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a speeding car while celebrating Diwali in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune. The incident occurred on November 1 and was captured on surveillance cameras. The victim, identified as Soham Patel, was bursting firecrackers on the roadside when the accident took place.
CCTV footage shows him walking towards the centre of the road to light some firecrackers when a car approached at high speed and hit him from the side. The impact of the collision threw him several metres away. The police are currently reviewing additional CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle and its driver. In a related incident, five children were injured in Pune's Sinhgad area when the lid of a drain chamber exploded after they lit firecrackers on it. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening.
Another tragic event linked to firecrackers occurred in Nagpur, where a 25-year-old man named Amol Waghmare was allegedly stabbed to death by a teenager following an argument over firecrackers on the same day.
