Ranchi: Fashionistas in the capital city are gearing up for grand Durga Puja celebrations along with religious fervour. Apart from the puja paraphernalia, the markets are also bustling with buyers, designers and wholesalers experiencing a growing demand for unique and fashionable outfits that blend both traditional and modern elements. Vibrant colours and bold patterns are dominating this year’s fashion scene with sarees being the centrepiece in the women’s attire.

“The saree is an integral part of the Durga Puja attire. It represents our culture and tradition but there’s also a modern touch this year. I’m seeing sarees with contemporary blouses that have statement sleeves or backless designs, which give a modern edge to the traditional look,” said Rekha Sinha, a regular shopper at the Upper Bazaar.

Notably, designers are noticing a mix of traditional and modern preferences with handloom sarees made from tasar and silk being in high demand. Contemporary embellishments like zari borders, intricate embroidery and quirky blouses are part of these sarees. Fusion outfits, such as kurtis paired with palazzos, shararas, or jeans are also gaining popularity among younger women and working professionals, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style for pandal-hopping and festive gatherings.

Anjali Verma, a fashion designer from Morabadi working with a local boutique, said, “This Puja, we’ve seen a surge in demand for handloom sarees. People are moving towards sustaina.
