Patna: A 40-feet tall Durga puja pandal being erected at Anandpuri locality in city will be highlighting the struggles of farmers and potters, and the menace of paper leak through idols and decorations, besides showcasing benefits of eco-friendly environment this festive season. The cost of the idols, pandal and its decoration has been estimated around Rs 25 lakh, said an office-bearer of a puja committee in the area. Secretary of Shri Vijay Vahini Durga Puja Samiti, Harsh Vardhan, said, “Glimpses of farmers and potters’ lives will be displayed through different idols at Himgiri puja pandal at West Boring Canal Road this year.

Lord Ganesha will be seen ploughing the field with farmers, while goddess Laxmi will be seen helping women in the farming. Lord Kartikeya and Maa Saraswati will be seen helping the potters. These creative idols are being made by a local artist, Abhijit Pal, and his team.

” Established in 1982, the Shri Vijay Vahini Durga Puja Samiti, will be celebrating the 43rd Durga puja this year with the theme — ‘Maati Ke Laal’, based on the life of peasants and potters. “We will also showcase the menace of paper leak and cheating in examination, placing the idol of NEET paper leak mastermind, Sanjiv Mukhiya , who will be shown in the form of a demon being killed by Maa Durga,” he told TOI on Sunday. The puja committee has planned to decorate the entire 400feet-long street — from Himgiri Chowk to the pandal — with 10,000 hanging clay pots with holes below and colourful bangles through which beautiful light patterns will be emitted.

“Along with the street, the pandal is also being decorated with the help of specially designed clay pots. The order for such pots has been given to the potters of Sonepur in Saran district,” the secretary said. Santosh Kumar, president of the committee, said a ‘mahabhandara’ will be organised for the devotees from 7pm to 9.
