More at — PuebloCounty Sheriff (@PuebloCountySO) According to court documents, the charges against Young include rape and five counts of object rape — both first-degree felonies — as well as two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. In Utah, a person commits object rape if they sexually assault another person using a substance, instrument, device, or part of the human body other than the mouth or genitals with the intent to cause emotional or bodily pain, or to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any individual 14 years old or older, according to According to a probable cause statement authored by the Piute County Sheriff’s Office, Young showed up at a friend’s Circleville home on July 15, 2023, despite his friend not expecting him to visit until mid-August. The juvenile victim later told investigators that Young repeatedly sexually assaulted her over the next three days, beginning the day after his arrival and continuing through the duration of his visit.

At one point, the juvenile said Young raped her. After Young, a Colorado corrections officer who at the time of the alleged assault had recently been promoted to sergeant, returned home to Colorado, a younger girl in the home reported to her mother that Young “is not a very good person” and said that she'd seen him inappropriately touching the victim. The Piute County Sheriff’s Office then opened an investigation July 19.

The girl told investigators that Young had first contacted her on Instagram when she was just 14 years old. She said Young would comment on her photos and “tell her she was beautiful and wanted to send her money,” according to charging documents. Young also allegedly told the teenager that he and his wife were in an “open relationship” and sent her photos and videos of his genitals, as well as videos of him having sex with “unidentified females.

” In August 2023, Utah investigators learned that the juvenile had retained the underwear she was wearing on the night of the alleged rape and had not washed them. The underwear was collected and sent to the Utah State Crime Lab. In December, the crime lab tested the underwear and determined the presence of human alpha-amylase, a component of human saliva.

Utah investigators then worked with Colorado law enforcement to obtain Young’s DNA through a buccal swab, which detects DNA in cells inside of a person's cheek. In July 2024, Young’s DNA was collected and delivered to the Utah State Crime Lab. Later that month, the investigating detective interviewed Young, who claimed he “never touched” the juvenile and stated there was “no possibility” his DNA would be present on her, according to charging documents.

On Aug. 19, 2024, the crime lab determined the human alpha-amylase on the girl's underwear was a match for Young’s DNA with “very strong support.” A warrant for Young's arrest was issued Sept.

6, the same day he was booked into the county jail by PCSO deputies. His initial appearance in court is scheduled for Sept. 16.
