Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro is one of the worst kept secrets in the games industry, and game developers are tired of keeping it. According to reports, multiple PS5 Pro developers directly addressed the system at Gamescom 2024. With references to the system found in the files of No Man’s Sky and new PS5 controllers listed online , the PS5 Pro release date can’t be that far away.
Furthermore, with developers admitting to be working on the system, a more powerful PlayStation should be just around the corner. PS5 Pro developers spill the beans According to a report from TweakTown , multiple game developers at Gamescom 2024 discussed the existence of the PS5 Pro. A largely reputable outlet, TweakTown reports that the system was an “open secret” with large groups of devs openly discussing the new console.
TweakTown reports that an Italian game developer admitted that they delayed their game to add PS5 Pro support. Additionally, the developer claims the new system will run Unreal Engine 5 games “much better”, a sticking point for the current generation of consoles. While the new PlayStation has not been confirmed by PlayStation, and developers are under strict NDA, “this didn’t stop the developers at Gamescom talking about the PS5 Pro”.
Following the launch of the PlayStation 5 Slim, many players expected a quick release of a Pro system. However, Sony is now expected to reveal the mid-generation refresh system at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, just in time for a Holiday release. Nevertheless, the existence of the Pro system is still unconfirmed, despite the large amount of evidence.
How powerful is the Pro? Sony’s new PlayStation 5 system is expected to be a great deal more powerful than its predecessor. Current reports cite a 45% faster SoC compared to the current PS5 system with largely improved ray-tracing performance. Additionally, Sony is implementing its own reconstruction technology to compete with Nvidia’s DLSS.
