Pune: The exchange of money to manipulate the teenage driver’s blood alcohol test in the Porsche Taycan crash case took place on the premises of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Yerawada on May 19 when the minor was brought there after the accident earlier the same day, special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray told the special court on Friday. Resuming his arguments on Friday against the bail pleas filed by the 17-year-old’s parents and four other co-accused, including the two suspended doctors of Sassoon hospital, Hiray submitted that this exchange of money was part of a criminal conspiracy that was one aspect of the crime. Two young software engineers died at Kalyaninagar around 2.

30 am on May 19 when the minor, who is the son of a city-based builder, rammed the high-end car into their bike while he was returning home at Wadgaon Sheri after partying with friends at two pubs in Mundhwa. The teenager’s parents, along with Sassoon hospital’s head of forensic sciences department Dr Ajay Taware, casualty medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and mortuary staffer Atul Ghatkamble — all three now suspended — and two middlemen, Ashfaque Makandar and Amar Gaikwad, were arrested on charges of bribery and manipulating the blood alcohol test by swapping the minor’s blood sample with that of his mother’s. Barring Ghatkamble, the remaining people have applied for regular bail.



Hiray submitted that CCTV footage obtained from the JJB premises by the Pune police showed that Makandar, Gaikwad and Ghatkamble were present in the compound that afternoon. The prosecutor said the footage showed one of the two middlemen opening the left door of a white car and the other taking out a bag and handing it over to Ghatkamble. The prosecutor will continue with his arguments on Monday.
