Sodiq Ojuroungbe A nutrition expert, Dr Temilade Babatunde has warned that excessive consumption of processed foods also known as a pro-inflammatory diet could lead to heart failure. PUNCH Healthwise reports that pro-inflammatory foods include processed meats (hot dogs, sausages, bacon), refined sugars (white bread, sugary drinks), fried foods (french fries, fried chicken), foods high in saturated and trans fats (butter, lard, partially hydrogenated oils), among others. Speaking exclusively with our correspondent, the food expert noted that these types of foods could trigger inflammation in the body, which could lead to a range of health problems, including heart disease.

“A pro-inflammatory diet is a major risk factor for heart disease. When we consume a diet high in processed foods, added sugars, and saturated fats, we are triggering inflammation in the body. This inflammation can lead to various health problems, including heart disease.



“A pro-inflammatory diet can increase the risk of heart failure by triggering inflammation in the body. This inflammation can damage the heart and blood vessels, which can increase the risk of heart failure,” she stated. Babatunde advised Nigerians to adopt a healthy diet that is low in processed foods, added sugars, and saturated fats.

She recommended consuming a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein sources. The nutritionist also emphasised the importance of regular physical activity and stress mana.
