Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the popular Congress leader took oath as a member of Lok Sabha on Thursday, as the Parliament’s winter session entered its third day. Priyanka took oath donning an elegant Kasavu saree, a traditional symbol of Kerala’s cultural heritage. Her outfit choice was a celebration of Kerala's rich and varied traditional ensemble as well as an homage to the state's distinct style.

With its distinctive white or cream base and golden border, the Kasavu saree is more than just a garment and stands as a symbol of Kerala's uniqueness, grace and ingenuity. It is renowned for its beautiful handwoven fabric and the appealing golden zari (metallic thread) along the border.



The richness and beauty of the saree are enhanced by the zari often used for the border, which is usually created from genuine gold or gold-plated threads. The nobles and elite wore Kasavu sarees, which were seen as a prestige symbol. But as time passed on, the saree gained popularity and accessibility, finally becoming a mainstay in Kerala women's wardrobes.

Originally reserved for the wealthy, gold zari was used at the border. Today, a range of zari and decorations are being used, allowing Kasavu sarees to be purchased at a lower cost without sacrificing quality or tradition. A post shared by Rahu.
