Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark married American lawyer Matthew Kumar onSaturday, September 28, after postponing the wedding twice. The lovers began their relationship in 2016 and planned to get married in 2020, but the pandemic forced them to cancel the celebration. After 8 years of being boyfriend and girlfriend, the couple was still able to officially consolidate their marriage and hold a ceremony at the Cathedral in Athens, Greece, where the bride's parents, King Constantine II and Anne Marie of Denmark, married exactly 60 years ago.

According to People , 41-year-old Princess Theodora announced her engagement to a Los Angeles-based lawyer in November 2018. Their wedding was postponed twice. First, in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic started, the newlyweds changed the date to early summer 2023, but due to the death of Theodora's father at the age of 82, it also had to be postponed.



"The couple's desire to have their wedding in Athens reflects their love for Greece, the strong ties they maintain with the country and their desire to share Greek culture and hospitality and identity with their guests," reads the wedding announcement for Princess Theodora and Matthew Koumar. During the ceremony, the bride was led to the altar not by her father, as is customary, but by her older brother, Crown Prince Pavlos. Princess Theodora wore a luxurious off-the-shoulder, puffy wedding dress, with white beaded embroidery shimmering.
