Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were warmly welcomed with gifts when they took the time to visit Invictus athletes during their fast-paced tour of Colombia. The 39-year-old Duke and 43-year-old Duchess of Sussex were presented with gifts on Friday, August 16, during their visit to Bogota's Centro de Rehabilitación Inclusiva. Athletes from Team Colombia were preparing for the Invictus Games, a competition for sick, injured, or wounded returning veterans.

On the second day of their national tour, the well-known pair attended a training session. Athletes were joined in attendance by local military authorities, Vice President Francia Márquez, and her partner, Rafael Yerney Pinillo. Markle received paintings, hand-knitted creatures, matching necklaces and earrings made by local artists while she was there.

Prince Harry received a commemorative plaque from the Ministry of National Defense Veterans in recognition of his continued strong support for the Invictus Games. Since its inception in March 2014, the multisport event has been supported by The Prince. The athlete read, “To Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex,” as she gave the gift to the Duke.

“In appreciation and thanks for your commitment and priceless provision of sporting events and the Invictus Games as a means of rehabilitation for Colombian wounded, ill, and injured law enforcement and military personnel, whether they are active duty members or veterans.” The Sussexes visited the facilities, which featured a swimming pool, a gym with a rock climbing wall, and a rehabilitation area, in addition to witnessing the Colombian sportsmen exercise. Many of the sportsmen, including a group of Korean War veterans, were interviewed by Prince Harry and Markle about anything from their go-to workouts to strategies for maintaining their strength.

At one point, Markle was cheering from the sidelines while the Prince participated in a volleyball match. Prince Harry remarked, “It's amazing to see how many people can come together to form one team,” and Markle expressed her admiration by saying, “They are all so incredible to watch.” The visit follows Márquez and Pinillo's Thursday, August 15, welcome party for the Sussexes at the vice president's mansion.

Before exchanging gifts with Márquez and Pinillo, the pair had coffee, tea, and traditional pan de bono (Colombian cheese bread) in the vice president's house. Us Weekly was informed by a reporter who attended the meeting that Márquez conveyed her appreciation for the official visit from the couple and that she felt the Sussexes and she had similar ideals and objectives regarding advocating for a safer and better digital future as well as mental health for our kids and the global community.
