Thursday, October 3, 2024 President Mohamed Muizzu underscored the vital importance of preserving peace to ensure the continued sustainability of the Maldives’ tourism sector. Speaking on National Tourism Day, the president took to his official X account to highlight how the values of brotherhood, friendship, compassion, peace, and security form the bedrock of the Maldives’ global reputation as a premier tourist destination. “Tourism thrives on a foundation of trust and harmony,” President Muizzu said, emphasizing that maintaining peace is essential not only for the safety of visitors but also for the overall well-being and prosperity of the Maldivian people.

“Our nation’s hospitality, sense of community, and peaceful environment are what draw millions of visitors from around the world to our shores each year. Preserving these values is paramount to securing the future of our tourism industry.” Tourism is a crucial pillar of the Maldivian economy, contributing significantly to GDP, employment, and foreign exchange earnings.

The president’s remarks come at a time when global geopolitical instability and environmental challenges pose growing threats to tourism-dependent nations like the Maldives. By emphasizing peace and security, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a safe and stable environment for both locals and international visitors. First celebrated in 2022, National Tourism Day commemorates the opening of the Maldives.
