Then-freshman Jack Berro, seen here in a Feb. 21 file photo, and the Aspen Skiers cruised to a 6-1 record to start the 2024-25 season ahead of the holiday break. With high schoolers on holiday break, there’s a momentary lull in prep sports as they greet Santa and get in some family trips.

There are no practices or competitions until the new year. Heading into the pause, here’s the latest from local winter high school sports. Boys basketball The Aspen Skiers are looking potent once again and are off to a 6-1 start.



They will enter 2025 on a six-game winning streak. In two tournaments, their only loss was in the season opener, a 72-64 overtime affair with Middle Park. They then beat Western Slope League rivals Rifle and Middle Park.

They closed the December schedule with a dominant 60-19 win over Florence in the home opener on Dec. 19. After being ranked No.

6 in 4A in the preseason coaches poll, Aspen is ranked No. 5 in the ratings percentage index. Their next game is against No.

1 Peak to Peak on Jan. 3 at a tournament at Holy Family High School in Broomfield. Roaring Fork headed into the break at 5-2 with a three-game winning streak from a tournament in Keenesburg at Weld Central.

The Rams finished third in their home Brenda Patch tournament to kick off the season, but included a victory over eventual tournament champion Banning Lewis Academy. The Rams are currently ranked No. 14 in 3A.

They face rival Basalt on the road on Jan. 4. The Longhorns will enter that game look.
