It was a successful and valuable — from a competition standpoint — weekend for Mountain Crest’s girls wrestling program. The Mustangs went 4-1 against some good teams at the Bear River Duals, with that lone setback coming against reigning 5A state champion Wasatch, 60-18. Mountain Crest did dispatch of defending 6A champ Copper Hills (54-30), along with Bear River’s JV squad (71-12), Syracuse (53-29) and Ridgeline (48-36).

Addilyn Baxter (100-pound weight class) and Audrey DeKorver (190) both went undefeated for the Mustangs, with all three of Baxter’s contested matches being decided in pinning fashion. Amelia Choate (105), Madeline Halligan (125), Dani Alexander (130) and Maggi Budge (155) teamed up to go 14-4 in contested bouts for Mountain Crest, while Wren Gallup (135) and Laura Stabile (170) both prevailed in three of their five duels. Mountain Crest’s JV squad also competed in this varsity tournament and went 1-3, highlighted by a nailbiting 42-40 triumph over 6A Layton.

The Mustangs lost to Cooper Hills by one point, 42-41. Lyla Speth (140) went 3-1 in contested matches for Mountain Crest. Meanwhile, Ridgeline went 2-3, with wins over Bear River’s JV team (54-24) and Northridge (42-42) — via tiebreaker — and losses to Wasatch (53-21), Syracuse (38-36) and Mountain Crest.

A trio of Riverhawks tasted victory in all of their bouts in Keagan Grange (120), Taya Crookston (145) and Sarah Walsh (170), while Kemrie Grange (115) reigned supreme in three of her.
