A 20-0 run spanning the first and second quarters, coupled with a memorable defensive performance in the second half, allowed the Bobcats to secure arguably their biggest win of the 2024 high school football season. Sky View took the lead for good in the second quarter en route to a 26-20 victory over Provo, the No. 2 seed, in the quarterfinals of the 4A State Championships on Friday evening.
As a result, Sky View earned the right to play at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Eric Alder’s first season in charge of the program. The seventh-seeded Bobcats will face No. 2 Crimson Cliffs next Friday at 6 p.
m. “Unbelievable, unbelievable,” Alder said. “You know, from the get-go we just took it one day at a time, one practice at a time, one film session at a time and you say to the kids that our goal, our mission, our objective is to be the best version of us, the best team we can be, reach our potential and see where that’s at.
And we were able to beat some good teams and feel like, ‘oh, actually, this team can play as well as any Sky View team from the past.’ And it feels amazing to come down here on the road and get one of the grittiest, toughest wins I’ve ever been a part of.” It was a rough start for Sky View (8-4) as Provo (8-3) received the opening kickoff, marched down the field in convincing fashion and took a 7-0 lead on a 19-yard run by Oliver MacKay.
The Bobcats quickly bounced back, though, as they found paydirt on their opening series when Jack Clark found a wid.
