It was an encouraging, successful start to the Make Skabelund era for Logan’s boys basketball program. The Grizzlies scored 20 or 21 points in three of the four quarters on their way to a 75-69 victory over 5A Box Elder on Friday evening in Brigham City. It was Skabelund’s first game as Logan’s head coach.

There were three other Friday night games involving local boys teams. In other action, Green Canyon prevailed in comfortable fashion for the second time in as many days, this time by a 63-40 scoreline over fellow 4A program Provo, while Sky View was edged by host Desert Hills, 45-43, and Clearfield left Hyrum with a narrow 51-46 triumph over Mountain Crest. It was the season opener for the Mustangs.

Sade Nenbee poured in 24 points for Logan, which also got double-digit scoring from Reed Olsen (15 points), Milo Steele (13) and Ethan Woolley (10). Steele knocked down three 3-pointers for the Grizzlies, who finished with 26 field goals and got seven points from Kam Alvarado. Logan was able to emerge victorious despite giving up 13 3-balls to Box Elder (0-2).

Mason Jeppson and Ryan Jenson sank four treys apiece for the Bees, and Jeppson led the way with 20 points. Carter Buchanan chipped in with 16 points and Jenson with 14. Meanwhile, Green Canyon was nursing a 24-23 halftime lead against Provo (1-1), but took complete control by outscoring the Bulldogs 20-6 during the third quarter.
