PRAYAGRAJ: Large numbers of protestors, who arrived at gate number 2 of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) on Monday morning, continued to lay siege to the Commission’s headquarters in Prayagraj for over 24 hours. The protest, staged by the aspirants of the prelim exam of PCS-2024 and RO/ARO 2023, conducted by the Commission, commenced on Monday morning and continued uninterrupted on the second day. The aspirants were protesting against the decision of the Commission to conduct the PCS (pre) and RO/ARO exams in two days.
They were also against the formula of normalisation implemented to evaluate the answer sheets of the aspirants. Although it was more of a protest by the aspirants, several student leaders of Samajwadi Chatra Sabha, the student wing of the Samajwadi Party, along with their counterparts from the National Student Union of India (the student wing of the Congress Party), were seen participating in the dharna. Huge numbers of agitators continued to sit in front of gate number 2 of UPPSC, and all attempts to defuse the situation proved futile.
On late Monday night, UPPSC Secretary Ashok Kumar, along with District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar, Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, and Police Commissioner Tarun Gauba, met the agitated protestors and tried to convince them that the changes in the exam pattern were made for their benefit, but the aspirants continued with the protest. Likewise, on Tuesday, the DM again met the agitated aspirants .
