Prayagraj: For the first time, both sides at Prayag Junction and Phaphamau Junction of Northern Railways (NR) will be equipped with holding areas for passengers expected to come for Maha Kumbh . The holding areas will have restroom facilities , water supply and other essential amenities for the passengers to stay and rest. Moreover, preparations have been made to establish food stalls and ticket counters within these areas.

The Lucknow division of Northern Railway has discussed the construction of holding areas on both sides of these stations as part of the ongoing development work at Prayag and Phaphamau stations. During the previous Kumbh, only one side holding area was constructed at each station. This time, considering the anticipated crowd during the Maha Kumbh, the railway administration has made arrangements to construct holding areas on both sides of the respective stations.

During the inspection of Prayag and Phaphamau stations last week, General Manager, NR, Shobun Chaudhary directed the construction of sheds, boundary walls, and other infrastructure in the holding areas at both stations to be completed by November 24. In another important development, due to the ongoing track doubling work between Prayagraj Jhunsi and Prayagraj Junction, 17 trains, including Chauri Chaura Express, will not stop at Rambagh railway station until August 13. The stoppage was initially suspended from June 22 and was scheduled to resume from August 6.

However, due to incomplete work on platform numbers four and six, the trains arriving at these two platforms will be diverted for an additional week and sent to Prayagraj Junction instead. These trains will stop at Prayagraj Junction from August 6 to August 13. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is undertaking the infrastructure development work at Rambagh station.

A total of 35 pairs of trains operate in Rambagh, with 29 pairs travelling between Prayagraj Rambagh and Prayagraj Junction. Among these, only 17 pairs have a designated stoppage at Rambagh. PRO of North Eastern Railway (Varanasi Division), Ashok Kumar, said that the block period has been extended to facilitate the ongoing work.
