Styling hair at home is something all of us want to do but when we actually try to do it, we realise it is much more difficult than it seems. Many times we look up online and want to create looks but somehow our hair bun doesn't look the same as the pinterest-y one. Here are a few tips you should keep in mind while styling your hair.

1. Buns - Buns are our best friends on bad hair days. However when we try to make it look stylish, it always ends up looking like the next door girl.

When you style your bun, try to create a neat parting first whether center or side. Once the parting is created make a ponytail of the hair and wrap it in a good grip. After that is done, you can back-comb the ponytail to create a fluffy feel to the hair.

Now take a scrunchie & wrap it around. This will give a fuller look to the bun and to add some shine, take one pump of serum and apply on the hair around the crown. It gives a gel’d effect without making it sticky.

2. Heat protection - Every now and then we keep hearing about heat protectors but don’t actually use them. Heat protectors are a must for all kinds of styling.

They create a thin film around your hair shaft and do not allow the heat to directly damage the hair. Some heat protectors are also very useful in controlling frizz. 3.

Ponytails - Ponytails can be a complete game-changer in the overall look. Ponytails can be worn in all sorts of events from brunch to cocktails to weddings. Adding an element of glam to the ponytail goes a long way.

Accessorising your ponytails with some pearls gives it a very classy effect. 4. Curling the hair with a straightener - Once you learn to use a straightener to curl your hair, life is sorted.

Especially when you are travelling, you wont need to travel with multiple styling tools. One tool for all is the way to go! The best way to use the straightener to curl the hair is to keep the heat low, give it a swift movement and glide it diagonally downwards to create a loose wave. Once that is done, you can use a wide tooth comb to open up the curls & voila you have the beach waves! 5.

Products - Hairstyling requires the help of products for sure. To make the styling last longer, invest in a hair mousse and use it before you start styling the hair. A mild hair spray after styling goes a long way in holding the curls.

A serum is definitely an essential for controlling frizz & fly-aways. Inputs by Vaishakhi Haria, Hair Stylist, educator, Entrepreneur, Director - Splash Salon Transform Your Hair Without Breaking The Bank: DIY Hair Spa At Home.
