Nanny was released in 2022 and marked the directorial debut of Nikyatu Jusu. It follows the story of undocumented Senegalese nanny Aisha (Anna Diop) as she balances her demanding job caring for an affluent couple's child with her desire to bring the son she was forced to leave behind over to America. However, her experience with the family is plagued by issues.

The mother Amy (Michelle Monaghan) grows jealous of the bond Aisha formers with her child and underpays her, leading to growing tensions. Meanwhile the father Adam (Morgan Spector) appears to be leading a secret life away from his wife and child. Amid this tense atmosphere, Aisha begins to experience a series of terrifying hallucinations and black outs which could jeopardise her job as a nanny.

She soon discovers there may be more to the phenomena she is experiencing. If its Rotten Tomatoes rating is to be believed, it is a must-watch on the platform. It currently enjoys a 90 per cent rating, and to boot, it has 11 awards under its belt too.

The film has accrued accolades including the Sundance Film Festival's coveted Grand Jury Prize in the Dramatic category and was voted Best Independent Film by the African-American Film Critics Association in 2023. One bowled-over viewer said of the film: "It makes one really stop and think about all the issues in today's society, more specifically, immigration and all it’s difficulties as well as the heartbreak that sometimes comes with it. This film kept the suspense right to the last minute, and for once, I wasn’t able to predict the ending.

Which is difficult to achieve these days considering how shallow and repetitive films tend to be now days."
