Sun has spent more than a year investigating and reporting Castro's lawsuit filed by rival Jose Rivera , who defiantly claims he is the rightful winner of the $2.04billion jackpot. Castro was unmasked as the biggest Powerball lottery winner in American history in February 2023 but was sued weeks later by Rivera, a Los Angeles gardener.

Rivera filed his initial complaint naming Castro and the California Lottery as defendants, alleging he bought the winning ticket from Joe's Service Center in Altadena in November 2022. Earlier this month, The U.S.

Sun unveiled a photograph of Castro's winning $20 Quick Pick ticket, which features 10 rows of numbers and the key digits on the sixth line. The winning numbers for the draw were 10, 33, 41, 47, and 56, and the Powerball was number 10. The photographs were taken by Castro, a former mechanic, and even feature greasy fingerprints.

Rivera previously claimed he signed the back of his ticket and it was stolen before Castro cashed it in, which his team have denied. Castro's ticket, revealed by The U.S.
