Ahmedabad: Heavy rainfall across the state has severely affected the industrial sector . The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) estate in Sanand has been bearing the brunt of the adverse weather conditions. The area witnessed a power supply failure after a substation was inundated due to the heavy downpour.

However, in the other parts of the state, though industrial production has been hit, things are expected to return to normal soon. According to Sanand Industries Association (SIA) office-bearers, approximately 300 factories in Sanand GIDC were left without power and water supply on Tuesday, and as of Friday, more than 100 factories continue to face power outages, resulting in a halt in production activities. According to estimates, the production loss at Sanand GIDC is around Rs 100 crore per day.

SIA president Ajit Shah said, “The authorities are working tirelessly to resolve the issue, but the lack of adequate infrastructure to drain out the accumulated water has hindered their efforts. “They are trying to provide alternative power to GIDC units, and we expect that the situation will be normal soon. However, there is a need to install a stormwater line in Sanand GIDC estate to ensure the estate does not suffer such a situation in the future.

” Sources said that many other GIDC estates, including those in the Vadodara district, have started functioning again. Pathik Patwari, former president, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), said, “Most of the GIDC estates in Vadodara district are returning to normalcy at a quicker pace than initially anticipated. Some estates are functioning at 50% capacity in Vadodara and Rajkot, while in Porbandar and Dwarka, most of the units are shut.
