Ranchi: The Bengali Youth Forum Charitable Trust inaugurated its annual Poush Mela at Bhagwan Birsa Munda Smriti Park (Jail Park), Ranchi, on Saturday. The two-day cultural extravaganza was launched with a sombre tone, respecting the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The fair features 17 stalls showcasing traditional Bengali and local cuisines, handicrafts, jewellery, and artwork.
The opening day commenced with an art camp, followed by a fashion show with 44 participants. Evening entertainment included the comedy drama ‘Shakti Cell' by Maulali Rang Shilpi and a musical performance by Sa Re Ga Ma Pa runner-up Gurjeet Singh from Kolkata. Cultural highlights include performances by Kolkata's Grill dance group and international Chhau artist Lalit Mahato from Purulia.
The event also features exhibitions of traditional attire, paintings, and Jhumar songs. "The fair aims to promote cultural enrichment and preserve traditional heritage," said Supriyo Bhattacharya, trust patron. With free entry, visitors can enjoy regional delicacies like doodh pitha, puli pitha, and jaggery rasgulla.
