Wednesday, August 7, 2024 To boost tourism, Port Blair Seaport in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is now an authorized ICP for foreign nationals with e-visas, enhancing regional travel. To enhance tourism , the Ministry of Home Affairs has recently designated Port Blair Seaport in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as an authorized Integrated Check Post (ICP) for foreign nationals with e-visas. This significant development is poised to boost tourism in the region.

This initiative will reshape the travel experience for international visitors and increase the allure of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, known for their beautiful beaches and adventure tourism offerings. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, famous for their unspoiled beaches, clear lagoons, and diverse marine life, are a sought-after destination for adventure seekers and nature lovers. The introduction of the e-visa entry facility at Port Blair Seaport is anticipated to draw more foreign tourists to this scenic archipelago.

Vishwendra, the Tourism Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, pointed out that the best time for yacht chartering in the area is between October and May. During these months, the seas are calm, and the tropical climate is especially enjoyable, making it an ideal time for maritime activities. Port Blair’s addition as an e-visa entry point now allows international visitors to enter India through six major seaports: Mumbai, Cochin (Kerala), Mormugao (Goa), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), New Mangalore (Karnataka), and Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands).

This expansion streamlines entry procedures for global travelers and positions the Andamans as a top destination for yacht and adventure tourism. Local officials have welcomed the move with enthusiasm. Prashant Kumar, former Chief Port Administrator of the Port Management Board and Special Secretary (Home) for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, highlighted that the Ministry of Home Affairs conducted a comprehensive review before approving e-visa entry at Port Blair.

Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Director General of Police, noted the decision’s potential to elevate the Andamans on the global tourism stage and stimulate growth in yacht tourism..
