As I walked around the Trafford Centre a week ago, admiring the Christmas lights, I felt, for a brief moment, all warm and fuzzy and festive. Off I went to Selfridges, where the Christmas decorations are all out on display, gorgeous sparkling baubles - a whole wall of them. And I admit I was stopped in my tracks when I spied a mini Mariah Carey in a Santa outfit, in glossy bauble form.

In a moment of weakness, and Ms Carey being a particular favourite of mine, I thought “I’ll treat myself to this”. Until, that is, I turned around the price tag. As I stood and stared at the bauble image of Miranda Priestly (yep, the baddie from Devil Wears Prada) I thought what the hell has this got to do with Jesus? Yet there she was, glowering behind her designer sunglasses, ready to hang on your Christmas tree.
