As the popular UnWined food and drink festival returns to the streets of Subiaco for its 14th year, director Richard Campbell spills on the tried-and-true formula that keeps visitors unwinding year after year. The locally owned wine festival will once again take over Market Square on October 19 and 20, showcasing more than 300 wines from every region in the State. Taking place ahead of WA’s winery award season, a variety of up-and-coming wineries, newly launched labels and small-batch producers will also be featured — a formula which Mr Campbell claims to be a testament to the event’s growing success over the past decade.

“At this time of the year, people get really excited about wines,” he said. “There’s been all the awards happening, so people are now sort of showing off their new releases. “But it’s also just prior to the summer season, so the wineries are in full mode of promoting what they’ve got and what people can do.

” Mr Campbell expects this year’s festival to surpass its attendance record with an estimated 4500 patrons. “I think a big reason as to why people keep coming back to UnWined is because they know what they’re getting,” he said. “it’s a tried-and-true formula and people have confidence in it.

” Apart from just wine, the weekend-long festival will also feature more than 70 stalls showcasing WA-based breweries, distillers and food producers. Patrons will have an opportunity to step into the luxurious Mercedes-Benz Park Loung.
