Vadodara: In a major haul, Dahod police seized poppy pods weighing a whopping 426kg worth Rs12.95 lakh at the Dhavadiya checkpoint. The pods was intercepted while being brought into the state from Madhya Pradesh .
One person was arrested with the seizure. The police officers were conducting routine checks at the state border when they noticed a pickup truck with a Madhya Pradesh registration number coming in from a road connecting Dahod with Banswara in Rajasthan.Dahod shares a border with both MP and Rajasthan.
The driver of the pickup truck, Mangilal Galaliya claimed that he was carrying onions. When the vehicle was checked, the police found bags hidden behind the onion stock. When the bags were opened, the stash of opium pods was found.
Galaliya from Piplya Mandi village in Mandsaur district, was arrested. He revealed that the material was loaded in the pickup truck by Dilip Malaviya from Mandsaur. The stock was being taken to Bhavnagar, where it was to be unloaded.
According to sources, two persons were piloting the pickup truck in a car. They managed to escape when the police stopped the truck..
