COLUMBUS – In a new poll released Wednesday, Congressman Sanford Bishop leads the 2nd Congressional District race by 11 percentage points, with substantial support among key voting groups. The poll, conducted by Public Policy Polling last week, shows Democrat Bishop earning 51% of the vote, with Republican opponent Wayne Johnson at 40%, and 9% undecided. Bishop’s favorability rating is high, also at 51%, indicating his popularity as a political figure with a well-developed image.
Despite consistent attacks from the opposition, Bishop remains in a strong position to win the race, and even expanded his voter support from 47% in September of this year to 51% in this most recent poll. “I believe service is the rent we pay for the space we occupy on Earth," Bishop said. "For the last three decades, it has been my honor to deliver real results for middle and southwest Georgia in the U.
S. Congress. We have brought billions of dollars to the district, helped veterans and farmers, and served as a help office for the people of Georgia’s Second Congressional District.
I look forward to continuing my service in Congress.” The survey of 400 likely general election voters was in the field Oct. 17-18, conducted via landline and cellphones.
