Mumbai: Observing that luxury under the guise of hospitalization cannot be accorded to the accused, a special PMLA court rejected the plea of 80-year-old Bandra businessman Manoharlal Agicha, arrested in a Rs 149 crore money laundering case, who sought an extension of his stay at a private hospital. The court had initially granted Agicha the relief of private hospitalization in March, after which he sought repeated extensions for treatment. The court has directed him to be sent to Arthur Road jail.

The judge referred to the latest hospital report which stated that a surgical option was available, but a decision was not yet taken as Agicha desired a few more weeks of medical management. “This itself demonstrates that there is no urgency for the surgery of the applicant. As far as providing medicines is concerned, that can be facilitated in the jail itself by the authorities,” the judge remarked.
