Pune: The civic body’s pothole helpline is flooded with complaints from across the city, with citizens highlighting issues of poor quality of road repairs and shoddy fixing of craters. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has, however, claimed it had carried out impeccable repairs, even as citizens said roads are repeatedly getting damaged. Data said PMC’s pothole helpline received 209 complaints since it started operations and as many as 135 were lodged in August.

Citizens said complaints had become a mere formality and pothole issues were not getting addressed. Sinhagad Road resident Ajit Sathe said he had raised the issue of a huge pothole near Prabhat Road on the helpline, but nothing happened. “The junction connecting Prabhat Road and Karve Road sees massive traffic and the pothole is located right there.

PMC officials have ignored the problem,” he added. Governing bodies like PMC are passing the buck to the Public Works Department to address the matter. IT professional from Hadapsar Mahesh Sonawane said the road near Laxminagar is damaged and causing traffic snarls on the Pune-Solapur highway and nearby areas like Shewalewadi.

He raised a complaint two weeks ago and again on Tuesday, but the problem remains. “As taxpayers, we expect good quality roads. Authorities responsible should themselves take cognisance.

Citizens should not have to run from pillar-to-post to find a solution,” he added. PMC officials said they have been regular with repair works. A special drive at night was held and over 1,500 potholes fixed.

“Pothole fixing is a continuous process. The administration has kept a deadline to complete all road repairs before the start of Ganesh festival,” said senior PMC official Sahebrao Dandge.
