PM Modi’s visit to Poland holds significance as this year marks the 70th anniversary of India’s diplomatic ties with the country. His visit to Ukraine will be the first by any Indian prime minister after diplomatic ties began between both nations in early 1990s. New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to begin his two-nation tour of Poland and Ukraine on Wednesday.

While he will be the first Indian prime minister to visit Poland after 45 years, he will also be the first prime minister to visit Ukraine, after the beginning of diplomatic ties between two countries in 1992. PM Morarji Desai had last visited Poland in 1979. During his two-day visit to the country, PM Modi will hold meetings with his counterpart Donald Tusk. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also meet Polish President Andrzej Duda and the Indian community. After landing in Warsaw, PM Modi would be accorded a ceremonial welcome.

Soon after, he will interact with business leaders and prominent ecologists of the country. According to Tanmaya Lal, Secretary, of the Ministry of External Affairs, around 25,000 estimated Indians are living in Poland, of whom 5,000 are students. PM Modi’s Ukraine visit PM Modi will travel to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv by a luxurious train after the completion of his Poland visit on July 23.

The train boasts impressive interiors, with its wood-paneled cabins designed for both work and relaxation. Among those who earlier boarded the train were US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron for their visits to Ukraine. Importantly, PM Modi is visiting Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing war with Russia.

He is visiting the country weeks after visiting Russia. “India has substantive and independent ties with both Russia and Ukraine and these partnerships stand on their own,” the news agency quoted Lal as saying. As per MEA, during his visit PM Nodi is scheduled to hold talks on a wide range of topics with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which include areas of agriculture, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, health and education, defense, and people-to-people contacts.

PM Modi, on the sidelines of the G-7 summit held in Italy recently, had conveyed to Zelensky India’s willingness to provide all support and peaceful solutions to the country’s war with Russia..
